Nepal Police Intensifies Action Against Foreign Employment Fraud

Empowering Your Financial Journey

Nepal Police has intensified its crackdown on foreign employment fraud networks that lure job seekers abroad with promises of high salaries and overseas opportunities. According to data released by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, authorities arrested 66 individuals during the month of Jestha alone for their alleged involvement in various foreign employment scam cases.

Police stated that the accused collectively defrauded 237 victims, most of whom were young people seeking employment opportunities outside Nepal. Between Jestha 1 and Jestha 30, complaints filed with authorities claimed that victims lost a combined amount of more than NPR 181.4 million after paying money for overseas job arrangements that never materialized.

Investigations found that fraudsters commonly targeted job seekers by promising employment opportunities in countries such as the United States, Canada, Croatia, Serbia, Greece, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, Seychelles, and Mauritius. In several cases, victims were allegedly asked to pay large sums as processing fees, token amounts, or visa-related expenses before communication with the agents ended.

Police also reported that not only individual agents but some organized consultancy businesses were allegedly involved in fraudulent activities. Authorities have launched legal proceedings against the accused, with some cases transferred to Kathmandu District Police and others handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment for further investigation and action.

Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to remain cautious and avoid making payments to unknown individuals or consultancies that do not have official authorization for foreign employment services. Authorities also encouraged job seekers to verify recruitment agencies and employment offers before making financial commitments.
