Egg prices in Nepal have increased once again after the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association revised the farm support price for eggs.
According to the newly published price list, the prices of major egg categories have been increased by NPR 15 per crate. This marks another price hike within just 11 days, adding further pressure on consumers already facing rising food costs.
Under the revised rates, the price of XL eggs has increased from NPR 545 per crate to NPR 560 per crate. Similarly, the price of large eggs has risen from NPR 530 to NPR 545 per crate, while medium-sized eggs now cost NPR 515 per crate, up from NPR 500 previously.
The pricing structure for small-sized eggs has also been changed. Instead of being priced per crate, small eggs will now be sold at NPR 3,000 per carton. Previously, small eggs were priced at NPR 400 per crate.
The latest increase reflects ongoing fluctuations in the poultry sector and has raised concerns among consumers. With egg prices continuing to climb, many households have begun expressing concerns over the rising cost of a food item that has traditionally been considered one of the most affordable sources of protein.
The repeated upward adjustments in egg prices are expected to impact both household consumption and the food service industry, particularly if the trend continues in the coming weeks. As prices rise, consumers are increasingly feeling the strain of higher daily living expenses, leading some to remark that even buying eggs now requires careful consideration.
