Chairman of Chaudhary Group, Vinod Chaudhary, has expressed confidence that the partnership with global hospitality giant Marriott International will take Nepal's tourism and hospitality sector to a new level and strengthen the country's position as a premium international destination.
Speaking at a special event organized during the Nepal visit of Marriott International Chairman David Marriott, Chaudhary described the collaboration as a historic milestone and a strong statement of confidence in Nepal's future.
Reflecting on his nearly three-decade journey in the hospitality industry, Chaudhary recalled that his first attempt to establish a major hotel project in Nepal in 1998 could not materialize due to technical and operational challenges. However, discussions held with Marriott's leadership in Singapore two years ago eventually paved the way for the current partnership.
Global Hospitality Leader Strengthens Presence in Nepal
Chaudhary emphasized that Marriott International's vast global network makes the partnership particularly significant for Nepal's tourism industry.
Marriott currently operates more than 9,900 hotels worldwide with over 1.7 million rooms across numerous internationally recognized brands. According to Chaudhary, collaboration with such a globally respected hospitality company will not only benefit Nepal but also enhance the broader tourism landscape of South Asia.
He noted that the entry of world-renowned luxury hotel brands into Nepal sends a powerful message to international travelers and investors that the country is ready to offer world-class hospitality experiences.
Prestigious Brands to Transform Nepal's Tourism Landscape
During the event, Chaudhary highlighted the arrival of luxury brands such as Ritz-Carlton, Westin, and JW Marriott as a major achievement for Nepal's tourism sector.
He stated that these internationally acclaimed brands will help position Nepal as a premium destination for high-end travelers, business visitors, and luxury tourism markets.
"The presence of Ritz-Carlton, Westin, and JW Marriott in Nepal will send a strong positive message to the world. It demonstrates that Nepal is fully prepared to provide international-standard hospitality services and experiences," Chaudhary said.
He further added that Nepal has now secured a prominent place on Marriott's global expansion map, reflecting growing international confidence in the country's tourism potential.
Optimism Toward Nepal's Future Development
Chaudhary also expressed optimism regarding Nepal's political and economic future. He praised the current leadership and the increasing participation of younger generations in national governance, stating that the private sector remains committed to supporting the government's development agenda.
According to him, the foundation stone laying of the Ritz-Carlton project coinciding with the formation of the new government, followed by the visit of Marriott International Chairman David Marriott within a short period, represents a positive and encouraging development for Nepal.
He described these events as indicators of growing international interest in Nepal's economic and tourism prospects.
Expansion Plans Beyond Nepal
Beyond Nepal, Chaudhary revealed that Chaudhary Group is also aggressively expanding its hospitality footprint in India through its partnership with Marriott International.
The group is working toward an ambitious target of operating 500 hotels in India in collaboration with Marriott. He noted that the expansion strategy is progressing rapidly, with plans to add approximately one new hotel every week.
This expansion reflects the group's broader vision of becoming one of South Asia's leading hospitality operators while leveraging Marriott's global expertise and brand strength.
Supporting Nepal's Wellness Tourism Ambitions
The partnership comes at a time when Nepal is preparing to celebrate 2027 as the Year of Wellness Tourism, a national initiative aimed at promoting the country's natural beauty, wellness retreats, adventure tourism, and spiritual destinations.
Chaudhary believes the collaboration with Marriott will play an important role in strengthening tourism infrastructure, attracting international investment, and building a more sophisticated tourism ecosystem capable of serving high-value travelers from around the world.
As Nepal seeks to diversify and upgrade its tourism industry, partnerships with globally recognized brands are increasingly viewed as crucial for enhancing service standards, increasing international visibility, and attracting premium tourism spending.
With Marriott International expanding its footprint in Nepal and Chaudhary Group continuing to invest heavily in hospitality projects, industry observers see the partnership as a significant step toward positioning Nepal as a leading tourism and hospitality destination in South Asia.
