More Than Rs. 9 Billion Worth of IPOs Approved This Fiscal Year
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has granted approval to 24 companies to issue Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) as of the end of Chaitra in the current fiscal year.
According to SEBON, these companies have received permission to issue a total of 91,187,946 units of ordinary shares. The total value of the approved IPOs stands at approximately Rs. 9.11 billion.
The latest approvals indicate growing activity in Nepal’s capital market, with more companies seeking public investment through IPO issuance.
Hydropower Companies Continue to Lead
Among the 24 companies that received IPO approval, 15 are hydropower companies, making the sector the dominant player in Nepal’s primary market.
Currently, 103 hydropower companies are listed and traded on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE). Hydropower firms also make up a large portion of companies awaiting approval from SEBON.
The increasing number of hydropower IPOs reflects the sector’s strong presence and continued investor interest in Nepal’s stock market.
Manufacturing and Processing Sector Also Active
Besides hydropower companies, seven firms from the manufacturing and processing sector have received IPO approval.
Similarly, one development bank and one company from the hotel and tourism sector have also been approved to issue IPOs.
Market analysts believe the entry of more manufacturing and tourism-related companies will diversify investment opportunities for Nepali investors.
98 Companies Waiting for IPO Approval
At present, a total of 98 companies have applied to SEBON seeking approval for IPO issuance.
The breakdown of these applicant companies includes:
- 32 hydropower companies
- 18 hotel and tourism companies
- 26 manufacturing and processing companies
- 5 investment companies
- 3 microinsurance companies
- 14 companies from other sectors
This suggests that Nepal’s capital market could witness a significant increase in new listings in the coming years.
Investor Attraction Toward IPOs Remains Strong
Public interest in IPO investments has remained consistently high in Nepal over recent years. In particular, hydropower IPOs continue to attract strong applications from retail investors.
Experts believe that with dozens of companies still awaiting approval, Nepal’s primary market is expected to remain active and competitive in the coming months.
