The construction of the 140-meter-high main dam under Package-1 of the Tanahun Hydropower Project in Rishing Rural Municipality, Tanahun, has reached 50 percent completion, marking a significant milestone in one of Nepal’s major hydropower developments.
According to Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari, a total of 4,24,120 cubic meters of concrete has already been placed out of the required 8,50,000 cubic meters for the dam structure. Construction of the project officially began on Chaitra 7, 2081 BS, and has been progressing steadily since then.
Package-1, which includes the main dam and associated structures, is being executed by the Song Da Kalika Joint Venture. Overall physical progress of this package has reached 59 percent, indicating steady advancement toward completion targets.
The project has also achieved key engineering milestones, including the completion of supporting infrastructure such as tunnels and other essential structures. Additionally, the Seti River has been successfully diverted, and both upstream and downstream cofferdams have been constructed to facilitate ongoing dam works.
Project officials expressed confidence that the completion of the 140-meter dam will serve as an important achievement for Nepal’s energy sector, strengthening future electricity generation capacity.
