The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) closed almost unchanged in Wednesday’s trading session, posting only a marginal gain of 0.08 points (0.00%) to settle at 2,705.53. The slight recovery came after the market had declined by 6.31 points in the previous trading session, reflecting continued cautious sentiment among investors.
Despite the positive close, market movement remained largely range-bound throughout the day. The benchmark index opened lower at 2,699.06, moved to an intraday high of 2,714.67, and touched a low of 2,696.81 before ending the session slightly in green territory.
Trading activity moderated compared to recent sessions. Total daily turnover stood at Rs. 3.63 Arba, generated through the trading of 83.75 lakh shares across 352 listed companies in 44,542 transactions.
Following today’s close, NEPSE’s total market capitalization remained at approximately Rs. 46.22 Kharba, while float market capitalization reached Rs. 15.53 Kharba.
Among actively traded stocks, NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) emerged as the market leader by turnover, recording transactions worth Rs. 21.17 crores. The company’s stock closed at Rs. 1,428.00, indicating sustained investor interest in the counter.
On the gainers’ side, Sopan Pharmaceuticals Limited (SOPL) once again dominated the market and became the day’s top performer. The stock surged by 14.99%, closing at Rs. 808.50, continuing its recent strong momentum.
Meanwhile, NMB Debenture 10.75%–2089/90 (NMBD89/90) recorded the sharpest decline of the session. The debenture fell by 8.64%, ending the day at Rs. 1,206.00.
Sector-wise performance remained mixed. The Investment Index led sectoral gains with an increase of 0.53%, suggesting selective buying in investment-related stocks. On the other hand, the Hotels and Tourism Index recorded the biggest sectoral loss, declining by 0.64%.
Although the market managed to avoid another decline, the almost flat close and lower turnover indicate that investors are still waiting for stronger triggers before taking aggressive positions. In the coming sessions, attention is likely to remain on liquidity conditions, sector rotation, and upcoming corporate developments to determine the market’s next direction.
