Two Hydropower Companies Enter SEBON’s IPO Pipeline, Seeking to Raise Over NPR 169 Crore
Nepal’s hydropower sector continues to expand its presence in the capital market, with two hydropower companies recently submitting their Initial Public Offering (IPO) proposals to the pipeline of Securities Board of Nepal. If approved, the two companies aim to collectively raise more than NPR 169 crore from the public.
Raghuganga Hydropower Proposes NPR 150 Crore IPO
Raghuganga Hydropower Limited has submitted a proposal to issue 15 million shares at a face value of NPR 100 per share. Through this public offering, the company plans to raise NPR 150 crore.
The company has appointed NIC Asia Capital Limited as the issue manager for the proposed IPO. The share issuance can only proceed after obtaining approval from SEBON.
Raghuganga Hydropower was established on March 7, 2017, to develop the 40 MW Rahughat PROR Hydropower Project in Myagdi District of Gandaki Province. The project is being promoted by Nepal Electricity Authority, which currently serves as both the sole shareholder and lender of the project.
In terms of creditworthiness, CARE Ratings Nepal Limited has assigned the company an issuer rating of CARE-NP BBB- (Is). This rating indicates a moderate degree of safety regarding the timely servicing of financial obligations and reflects moderate credit risk.
Super Hewa Power Plans NPR 19.25 Crore IPO
Super Hewa Power Company Limited has also entered SEBON’s IPO pipeline with a proposal to issue 1.925 million shares at a face value of NPR 100 per share. The proposed offering is expected to raise NPR 19.25 crore.
The company has appointed Laxmi Sunrise Capital Limited as the issue manager for the IPO.
Originally incorporated as a private limited company in November 2010, Super Hewa Power was converted into a public limited company in July 2022. The company is currently operating the 6 MW Super Hewa Small Hydropower Project located in Sankhuwasabha District. The project has been in commercial operation since April 14, 2025.
CARE Ratings Nepal has recently upgraded the company’s issuer rating to CARE-NP BB (Is) from CARE-NP BB- (Is), reflecting an improvement in its credit profile. The rating suggests a moderate risk of default regarding the timely servicing of financial obligations.
Hydropower IPO Pipeline Continues to Grow
The addition of Raghuganga Hydropower and Super Hewa Power to SEBON’s IPO pipeline highlights the continued interest of hydropower developers in accessing Nepal’s capital market. While both companies have initiated the approval process, investors will only be able to subscribe to these shares after receiving clearance from SEBON.
With Nepal’s hydropower sector playing a key role in the country's economic development and energy security, these upcoming IPOs are likely to attract significant attention from investors looking for exposure to the renewable energy sector.
