Nepal’s stock market started the week on a negative note as the NEPSE index declined for the third consecutive trading session, reflecting continued caution among investors despite healthy market activity.
On Monday, the benchmark NEPSE index dropped by 12.26 points to close at 2,711.76. Market sentiment remained weak across broader indicators as the Sensitive Index declined by 0.96 points, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index also moved lower by 0.56 points and 0.26 points respectively.
Even though the market closed in negative territory, trading activity remained relatively strong. Total turnover increased compared to the previous trading session, reaching NPR 4.41 billion through 51,702 transactions across 350 listed securities. During the session, investors exchanged more than 10.73 million shares.
Momentum remained concentrated in a few newly active stocks. Sopan Pharmaceuticals and Apollo Hydropower once again hit the positive circuit limit, continuing their recent strong performance. Apart from these counters, most gainers recorded advances below 5%. On the losing side, Green Development Bank emerged as the biggest decliner of the day, while Rawa Energy Development posted gains of more than 7%.
In terms of turnover value, Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company led the market with transactions exceeding NPR 388.5 million. Trading activity was also strong in the 10.25% NBBL Debenture 2085 and Laxmi Sunrise Bank.
Sector-wise performance remained largely negative. Out of 13 sector indices, only the Manufacturing and Processing sector managed to close slightly higher. The “Others” sector recorded the steepest decline of 1.82%, while the Trading and Finance sectors each lost more than 1%, indicating broad-based selling pressure across the market.
With the index continuing to drift lower, investors are expected to closely watch whether support levels hold in upcoming sessions or if further correction follows.
