The Bagmati Province Government has officially increased the fees for driving license services through the Economic Bill introduced for implementing the Fiscal Year 2083/84 budget. The revised fee structure will come into effect from Shrawan 1, 2083, making it more expensive for service seekers to apply for, renew, or add categories to their driving licenses.
Under the new arrangement, the application fee for obtaining a driving license has doubled from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000. The province government has also significantly revised renewal and issuance charges across different vehicle categories while keeping the license validity period unchanged at 10 years.
For Category A (Motorcycle and Scooter), the fee has increased from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 3,000. Similarly, for Category B (Car, Jeep, Van), Category C (Tempo), and Category D (Power Tiller), the charge has been raised from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000. For Category E (Tractor) and Category F (Minibus/Mini Truck), the revised fee now stands at Rs. 5,000, up from Rs. 2,500.
Likewise, fees for Category G to J vehicles, which include trucks, buses, lorries, road rollers, dozers, cranes, fire engines, loaders, excavators, backhoe loaders, and graders, have increased from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 6,000. Charges for adding a new vehicle category to an existing license have also been revised upward, with A–F category additions rising from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 and G–J category additions increasing from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000. Despite the fee hike, the government has decided to retain the current 10-year validity period for driving licenses.
