Sabita Pokhrel has emerged as the winner of the Rotaract Youth Icon–2083 competition, securing the title after delivering an impressive performance in the grand finale held in Butwal on Saturday. Competing against four other finalists, she claimed first place and received a cash prize of NPR 20,000 along with a medal and certificate of recognition.
Laxmi Gaire was declared the first runner-up and received NPR 15,000, while Aakash Wali secured the second runner-up position with a cash award of NPR 10,000. Both finalists were also honored with medals and certificates during the closing ceremony.
The competition was organized by the Rotaract Club of Butwal Downtown with the objective of encouraging leadership, communication ability, public speaking, and personality development among young participants. According to club president Avishkar Khanal, the event began with 27 students participating in the audition round. Following multiple evaluation stages, 15 contestants advanced to the second round before the top five reached the final competition.
Ahead of the finale, organizers conducted a special panel discussion titled “From Passion to Icon,” featuring entrepreneur Mohan Thakur, leadership speaker Kamaljung Kunwar, and Prabas Rai, Chief HR and Strategy Officer at Shine Resunga Development Bank. The speakers shared personal experiences and encouraged participants to pursue their goals with consistency and confidence.
During the final round, contestants delivered six-minute speeches on the theme “Tomorrow’s Nepal, the History of Our Ancestors, and Us in the Present.” Participants were evaluated on content quality, originality, presentation skills, language delivery, pronunciation, creativity, and time management.
The judging panel included Amar Khatri, Dr. Avishkar Parajuli, and Madhav Belbase. Addressing the event, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Khel Raj Pandey emphasized that platforms like Youth Icon play an important role in shaping disciplined, capable, and future-ready young leaders.
